Frenectomy

Frenectomy – Oral+ Serres

Frenula (lingual or labial)

Frenula (lingual or labial) are small fibrous tissues that connect the lips or the tongue to the gums. When they are short or pathological, they may cause functional or aesthetic problems.

When is a frenectomy needed?

  • When the lingual frenulum restricts tongue mobility (ankyloglossia)
  • When it affects speech or breastfeeding in children
  • When the labial frenulum causes gum recession or impacts aesthetics
  • When it interferes with dental or orthodontic treatment

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia and takes only a few minutes. With specialized instruments, the frenulum is released or removed, restoring normal function.
