Abscess Management

Oral abscesses are caused by bacterial infections, usually due to tooth decay, periodontal disease, or trauma. They are often accompanied by pain, swelling, and sometimes fever, making them a dental emergency that requires immediate treatment.

What are the symptoms?
  • Severe, throbbing pain
  • Swelling of the gums, face, or jaw
  • Sensitivity when biting or chewing
  • Fever or malaise in advanced cases
How is an abscess treated?
  • Incision and drainage of the pus under local anesthesia
  • Prescription of antibiotics when necessary
  • Identification and treatment of the underlying cause (e.g., root canal therapy, tooth extraction, periodontal treatment)
