Apicoectomy – Oral+ Serres

An apicoectomy

is a specialized microsurgical procedure performed when a root canal treatment has not achieved the desired outcome. Its purpose is to remove the infected tissue at the tip of the tooth root while preserving the natural tooth in the oral cavity.

When is it needed?

When persistent infection remains after root canal treatment
When a cyst or granuloma has formed at the root tip
When retreatment of the root canal is not possible
When anatomical difficulties prevent conventional retreatment

How is the procedure performed?

Under local anesthesia, a small incision is made in the gum to expose the root tip. Then:

The tip of the root (2–3 mm) is resected
The root canal is sealed with a biocompatible material to ensure permanent closure
The procedure is painless and typically lasts 30–45 minutes.
